Do some crunches . . . the White Party is here!

By Dan Brown

If you ever wondered what happened to that beautiful boy from your hometown who moved away to become a movie star, you can be pretty sure that he was in Palm Springs during White Party weekend. One only has to look around that weekend to wonder if there isn't some genetic science experiment going on to produce what has to be the most attractive crowd at any event in the world. But it's not science really, unless you count protein shakes and carb-free diets as science.

The event kicked off Friday with a daytime pool party at the Wyndham hotel, the host hotel for the event. In the evening came the Basic Training party, where the throngs danced on into the night with gay icons Roman Heart and Omer. Saturday saw another pool party at the Wyndham, with the fabled White Party happening in the evening.

If you've never been to the White Party, I can only describe it as the aftermath of a nuclear bomb dropped on the set of "The Wizard of Oz." There's plenty of smoke, loud noise and confusion. But pouring out of it all are men more beautiful than MGM ever dreamed of, dancing to beats so fast they would make a Winkie's head spin.

Sunday started again with yet another pool party, and then it was off to Arenas Road for the afternoon T-Dance. More than any event, the T-Dance shows off the city of Palm Springs the best to our visitors. The weather was perfect, and the view of the mountains through the stage construction was magnificent. This is the event that feels the most relaxed. And a little relaxation was definitely in order, because it wasn't long before the crowd was back at the Wyndham for the Closing Party and then on to Oasis for the after hours party.

Entertainment for the weekend included Melissa G. at the Saturday pool party; Kelis makin' a milkshake at the White Party on Saturday night; and Idina Menzel defying gravity and Jody Watley lookin' for a new hit at the Sunday T-Dance.
