Get out those nail files - Les Dames du Soleil return for Mother's Day Show

Apr 17, 2008 - 08:26 PM

As the 1939 cult movie classic, "The Women," starring Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, and Rosalind Russell pronounced, the only nail polish suitable for gold-digging, scheming, and social climbing is "Jungle Red...Dahling."

You might want to hold on to your wig because that's the name of this year's Mother's Day show, benefiting Desert AIDS Project, when Les Dames du Soleil return to the Wyndham Hotel on Sunday, May 11. Ever-so-smart cocktails will be served at 6:00 PM, followed by a wickedly funny, razor-sharp performance at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $30 and sure to sell out fast - with standing room only offered at $20 - so call J.P. Allen at Desert AIDS Project at 760.323.2118, ext. 266.

You also won't want to miss the exciting live auction, which includes offerings such as a cocktail party for 40, courtesy of Carousel Catering; a six-day trip for two to Puerto Vallarta, airfare included; a four-day trip to Vancouver, airfare included; and a signed serilithograph, courtesy of Park West Gallery. D.A.P. volunteer group Stitch in Time will also be selling one-dollar raffle tickets during the cocktail hour for a beautiful quilt they have donated.

Les Dames du Soleil, the Coachella Valley's favorite "drag troupe of comic entertainers", were recognized in October with their very own star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars. And stars of fundraising are exactly what they are - they have been entertaining crowds since 1994 to raise substantial money for local nonprofit organizations. This group of tremendously talented men not only donates its time and talent but also covers the costs of their costumes and productions.

And, honey, Jungle Red nail polish ain't cheap!!

Desert AIDS Project is the organization in our community where people living with HIV and AIDS can receive comprehensive support, including medical care, case management, and social services. D.A.P. also offers confidential HIV testing at a number of locations and widespread education and prevention services for schools, civic organizations, businesses, churches, and health organizations throughout the communities it serves.
