News Remix: Beetlemania!

Casey`s June beetleThe U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) suspects we might need to save the life of a beetle.

No, it's not Ringo or Paul.

It's Casey:

"Currently, the only known population of the Casey's June beetle inhabits about 600 contiguous acres of land in southern Palm Springs, California. One of the areas inhabited by the species is Smoke Tree Ranch, a large residential/commercial property."

FWS thinks Casey's June beetle may require protection under the Endangered Species Act, but they're going to do a 12-month in-depth review, just to make sure. FYI, they've already spent 90 days on this beetle.

It sorta makes you wonder whether the Smoke Tree folks are rooting for or against the bug. If they see one crawling on the sidewalk, would they walk around it? Or will they later scrape the bottom of their shoes against the curb?!
