PSP: terminal velocity

PSP south entrance - click thumbnail to enlargePalm Springs International Airport (PSP) has a fascinating history, I must say. And it looks pretty darn cool these days, thanks mainly to Donald Wexler.

The 2001 expansion design is very eye-catching, too. [Click thumbnail photo to enlarge.] It takes advantage of our valley's desert climate, the perfect place for an attractive, sustainable "resortport." The terminal makes use of energy-saving tents: a lightweight, cable-supported tension structure, its membrane made of Teflon-coated fiberglass, rises about the pavilion to enclose its main hall, and similarly shades pedestrian routes.
