JAZZ, JAZZ, JAZZ!

David Koz headlines Sunday Lee Ritenour headlines Saturday It’s August and it’s time for the 15th Annual Jazz in the Pines, produced by the Associates of Idyllwild Arts Foundation. This is one of the coolest events in the area, literally cool high above the desert in the pine-scented mountain air, and doubly cool to get to hear the top jazz greats in the country in a picturesque outdoor amphitheatre shaded by swaying parachutes. Held on the campus of Idyllwild Arts for two whole days — August 23 and 24, to benefit scholarships for the Idyllwild Arts Foundatation. Gates open at 10 a.m. with continuous music from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days at various venues in addition to the amphitheatre. Let’s start with Friday — a double-header, so to speak. The first event isn’t entertainment, but is something very worthwhile. The city of Indian Wells, in partnership with the Community Blood Bank, is hosting a blood drive from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Indian Wells City Hall, 44950 Eldorado Dr. The Bloodmobile will be located in the parking lot adjacent to City Hall. Refreshments will be provided and each donor will receive discounted tickets to Knott’s Soak City Waterpark in Palm Springs.
