The world's first luxury plug-in hybrid car, the 2010 Fisker Karma, will make its West Coast debut at the Desert Classic Concours d'Elegance, in Palm Springs, California on March 1, 2009.
Recently unveiled at the January 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the four door premium electric drive sedan proves that driving style and performance need not be compromised for environmental friendliness.
According to Paul Merrigan, founder of the Desert Classic Concours d'Elegance, "In addition to the most significant classic cars, our event also features exciting new models demonstrating the best in design and technology."
Fisker Automotive, Inc., the new American manufacturer of premium "green" automobiles, will begin delivering the Karma in the fourth quarter of 2009. Starting price begins at $87,900.
The Desert Classic Concours d'Elegance is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization benefiting Palm Springs area charities. Held on the lush grounds and manicured fairways of the exclusive O'Donnell Golf Club in the heart of Palm Springs, the event continues the tradition that Palm Springs has long held with exotic automobiles, including the first road race in Southern California in 1950. Considered the Golden Era of road racing, these were unparalleled social events, with racers and spectators enjoying the nightlife offered by the legendary clubs and hotels of Palm Springs.
"Our event will focus attention on the unique history Palm Springs has in relation to these historically significant cars, as well as the celebrities and drivers that made them famous," says Merrigan.
This year's invited automobiles will be among the most significant expressions of innovative engineering, beautiful design, quality construction and finish, performance accomplishment and historical importance. The cars will be displayed so that spectators may learn about the history and significance of these wonderful vehicles.
