The 19th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival is upon us with a galaxy of more than 230 films from about 65 countries. Many of the foreign films screening are submitted for consideration as Best Foreign Language film for the Academy Awards.

The spectacular Awards Gala will be held on Saturday, January 8, sponsored by Cartier at the Palm Convention Center, host by Entertainment Tonight's Mary Hart. Cartier Pages will be wearing their signature Cartier red jackets and bell caps to greet arriving guests and present awards to the honorees. Cartier will also present special gifts to each honoree at the Gala. Cartier is one of the world's luxury brand and shares with the Festival a love and commitment to the arts.

Academy Award winner Halle Berry is among the honorees and will receive the prestigious Desert Palm Achievement Award along with Daniel Day-Lewis. Berry's impressive body of work and her stunning performance in 2007's Things We Lost in the Fire are a testament to her outstanding acting talent and her personal charisma. Her many accolades include an Oscar, SAG Award, Berlin Silver Ball Award and named Best Actress by the National Board of Review - all for Monster's Ball. He has also won an Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG , and NAACP Image Award for extraordinary performance in the HBO telefilm, Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, which she also produced.
Daniel-Day Lewis is honored for his latest film There Will Be Blood. Lewis is also a multi-award winner - an Oscar (My Left Foot), two more Oscar nominations In the Name of the Father and Gangs of New York. His many roles have been dynamic and diverse, such as The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Crucible, and The Ballad of Jack and Rose.
Other honorees are Jerry Weintraub, SAG Foundation Patron of the Arts; Sean Penn, Director of the Year; Marion Cotillard, Breakthrough Performance; Emile Hirsch and Nikki Blonsky, Rising Star Awards; James Newton Howard, Frederick Loewe Award for Film Composing; John Sayles, American Maverick Award; Juno, Chairman's Vanguard Award; Hairspray, Ensemble Performance Award and John Travolta.
The red carpet will be crowded with stars, so get a space alongside to see them arrive and maybe get a photo op.
