Marilyn cover poster

Marilyn Monroe Commemorative PosterThe cover of the September 2006 Palm Springs Life will feature a photo of Marilyn Monroe taken by Bruno Bernard at the Palm Springs Racquet Club in 1947.

And here's some excellent news: a 24x36" commemorative poster is on sale right now!

Trivia: Marilyn was 21 years old in 1947, the year she was named "Miss California Artichoke Queen." 1947 was the year after Marilyn: (1) ended her 4-year marriage to Jimmy Dougherty, (2) signed her first studio contract with 20th Century Fox, and (3) stopped using her birth name, Norma Jeane. Marilyn's first movie role, an uncredited bit part, was in 1947's The Shocking Miss Pilgrim.

Other Palm Springs Life/Marilyn covers: August 1987, June 1993 and April 1997.

Finally, check out the Marilyn Monroe House: This 6,500-square-foot Spanish hacienda estate in Palm Springs' famed Movie Colony is where Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio escaped the public eye. Behind gates and surrounded by tall ficus trees, this is the place for couples who want to be in a world of their own. Relax in the intimate suite Marilyn used, with its balcony overlooking the grounds. Views of Mt. Jacinto are everywhere. Set on 1.5 acres, the property features a very private back yard with pool. A concierge is available around the clock to take care of all your desires. He will welcome you, arrange late-night massages under the stars, make restaurant reservations, and even have a personal chef cook a gourmet dinner if you choose not to leave the estate.
