Kip’s Baby Boomer Blog

Checking out the Boomer scene for recreation, dining, and entertainment in Palm Springs and the surrounding desert communities.

Okay, Boomers, time for more fun. It’s getting a bit too hot for energetic activities, but there’s plenty of more sedate goings on this weekend just right for mature desert audiences.

Kenny G

How about starting the weekend with some cool jazz Friday evening. Kenny G takes the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino stage at 8 p.m. This iconic musician uses his saxophone to transport his audiences to a gentle, magical place. Other artists recognized Kenny G as something special as he has shared the stage with the likes of Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Babyface, Celine Dion, Frank Sinatra, and Dionne Warwick. His sale of 70-million CDs testify to his popularity and the release of his latest album, Rhythm and Romance, sets the tone for his latest appearance. Ticket prices are $29, $39, and $49.

The Human Jukebox

How about some laughs Saturday? Terry Fator, known as the Human Jukebox, brings is zany humor to Casino Morongo’s Grand Ballroom at 7 p.m. Fator sings, dances and performs with his “assistants” as he imitates famous celebrities past and present. Jokester, singer, comedian — Fator is everything. Tickets are $30 and up.

Full-Bodied Reds From Napa Valley

Of course, the best way to end a weekend is by sipping some premium wines. In this case, how about some of the full-bodied reds from Napa Valley that are so famous? Rich cabernets, silky merlots and jammy zinfandels are waiting for you starting at 5:30 at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa. For $50, those seeking the strong, inky wines of the Napa Valley can satisfy their palate. Go on, give in to temptation! The opportunity may not return.

So, you can see, there’s a lot of interest to Boomer happening this weekend in the Coachella Valley.

Until next Monday, ROCK ON!
