AIDS Assistance Program Receives Four New Grants

AIDS Assistance Program (AAP) has recently received grants from four organizations that will help fund its year-round food voucher program. The grants were received from the William C. Bannerman Foundation of West Hollywood ($7,200); the R.D. & Joan Dale Hubbard Foundation of New Mexico ($12,500); The Auen Foundation of Palm Desert ($10,000); and from the Desert Regional Medical Center Auxiliary ($6,250). In addition, the City of Palm Springs approved AAP to receive funds through the Community Development Block Grant Program. Several other organizations such as the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence have also designated grants to AAP.
 
“HIV/AIDS is a pandemic that isn’t going away anytime soon, so we’re very appreciative that these organizations are willing to support our mission of providing nutritional assistance to those in need,” said Mark Anton, Executive Director of AAP. “These grants are significant and timely, and we’re encouraged by the generosity of these foundations. It’s a vote of confidence in these challenging economic times.”

The AIDS Assistance Program of Palm Springs (AAP) is an essential community-service organization that provides much-needed food vouchers to people living with HIV/AIDS in our community.  Best known for its ‘quintessential’ gala event Evening Under the Stars – held each May on the O’Donnell Golf Course green – the organization has many fundraising events scheduled through the next year including the return of the annual Hoedown event to be held on Saturday, Sept. 26 at a private ranch in Garner Valley; an evening of Operetta, Broadway, & Operetta on Friday, Dec. 4 at the Annenberg Theatre; a new show from Les Originales at Hotel Zoso on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010; and the annual Evening Under the Stars gala on Saturday, May 1 at the O’Donnell Golf Club.
 
Since its founding in 1991, the AIDS Assistance Program of Palm Springs remains dedicated to providing comfort and support to improve the quality of the lives of those surviving HIV/AIDS. Initiated by a small group of concerned citizens, led by the late Gloria Greene and Jeannette Rockefeller, AAP provided meals to members of the community with low incomes and suffering with HIV/AIDS. Since then, the AIDS Assistance Program's client roster has grown from approximately 20 to more than 500 people.
