Dr. Jochen offers free consultations to patients interested in hair replacement surgery.

Timothy Jochen, MD, founder and medical director of The Laser Center at Contour Dermatology, has announced that his practice now performs hair replacement surgery, employing state-of-the-art surgical techniques to reverse the effects of baldness or thinning hair.

"Hair loss is primarily caused by a combination of aging, hormonal changes and a family history of baldness in both men and women," Dr. Jochen explains. "As a rule, the earlier hair loss begins, the more severe the baldness will become."

"But the good news is that with today's advanced surgical techniques, hair transplants can enhance a person's appearance and self-confidence when baldness or thinning hair is a concern," Dr. Jochen adds, explaining that the new techniques are light years ahead of the previous plug and cornrow approach. The Laser Center at Contour Dermatology performs individual hair follicle micrografts which create a totally naturally look.

All hair replacement techniques use existing hair, so candidates for this type of surgery must have healthy hair growth at the back and sides of the head to serve as donor areas – the places on the head from which grafts are taken. The procedure involves removing small pieces of hair-bearing scalp grafts from a donor site and relocating them to a bald or thinning area. Treatment is tailored to each patient's individual needs. Often an individual session will achieve the desired results; however, sometimes more than one session is required to achieve satisfactory fullness. Patients will experience full results in about eight months of growth following the transplant procedure.

Dr. Jochen, who is on the medical staff of Desert Regional Hospital and Eisenhower Medical Center, also has offices in Rancho Mirage. A Diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology, he specializes in cosmetic surgery as well as general and surgical dermatology, including Mohs Micrographic Surgery.
