Kip’s Baby Boomer Blog

Guilty as charged! I’m a Baby Boomer. I rocked out in the ’60s and ’70s, and while my body (and I hope my judgment) has matured, many of my tastes emerged from that exciting era. I've been known to plan my evening around a PBS Peter, Paul and Mary special. Fortunately for us more mature residents, the Coachella Valley has a lot to offer of interest to our generation … more than golf, that is. Take the Palm Springs Air Museum at 750 N. Gene Autry Trail in Palm Springs for example. My dad fought in “The Good War” and I picked up an enduring interest in all things World War II, especially old Warbirds. On Memorial Day this coming Monday, a vintage B-25 Mitchell, the same type that bombed Japan in the daring Doolittle raid in 1942, drops 1,500 red and white carnations in...

Palm Springs Casino Weekend Entertainment

I love living in the desert! The weekend’s coming and it’s time to play! One of the best benefits of desert life is the entertainment scene the Indian casinos offer. Look at the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage for example. Do you like barbecue? They offer it poolside from 4-7 p.m. every Friday. As for music and dancing, the band Mischief plays hits from the ’70s and ’80s as well as current rock and pop in The Lounge. And at 9 and 11 p.m. Saturday in The Lounge, the tribute band No Duh performs the music of No Doubt. Across the valley in Indio, the Fantasy Springs Casino Rock Yard venue is also having tribute bands perform. On both Friday and Saturday, the bands Cubensis and Crazy Train rock out with tunes from The Grateful Dead and Ozzy Osbourne. Check out the...
