“All we wanted to do was have the experience of building our own home with our own hands,” says Lisa Starr, co-owner of Bonita Domes in Joshua Tree.

They got that and much more.

When Starr and her partner, Gabriel Wendling, decided to move to Joshua Tree and build a sustainable life for themselves, they never dreamed it would generate this much attention from the community and beyond.

Both Lisa and Gabriel attended a workshop at Cal-Earth and learned how to build their dome pods that they now call home and offer up as vacation rentals.

Having just recently received their final housing permit, the couple decided a celebration was in order. The result? A Starrgghh Wars party.

The fundraising party hosted jointly by the Joshua Tree Chamber of Commerce and Bonita Domes will be held May 30 and features live music, fire spinners, an alien space bug and an after hours bliss lounge.

The hosts are asking attendees to come in costume – maybe a space pirate or perhaps Chewbacca?

To see the domes: The owners have asked that the general public refrain from driving by and just showing up without a prior appointment, as it is a private residence.
