In 2005, Los Angeles architecture firm Marmol Radziner revealed its prototype prefabricated, steel-frame Desert House on five acres in Desert Hot Springs. The bold modern design of this four-module, L-shaped structure emphasizes a relationship between interior and exterior spaces. The main wing — bedroom, bath, living room, and kitchen — connects to the north wing, which consists of a guest suite and a studio, via covered walkways that also provide precious shade. The large pool and deck with a fire pit offer panoramic mountain views. Solar panels generate electrical power for the property.
