Michael Weems Collection in downtown Palm Springs combines two desert pastimes — fine dining and midcentury modern architecture — on fun ceramic plates. The Palm Springs MOD collection includes 12 plates, each featuring a different iconic property, such as the Kaufmann House, Edris House, Frank Sinatra Twin Palms Estate, Raymond Loewy House, Ship of the Desert, Frey House II, and Tramway Gas Station. The 11.25×6.25-inch, food- and dishwasher-safe plates cost $70 each. Michael & Rigo’s new Desert Noir series includes Joshua Tree landscapes in two plate sizes ($40 and $75).

Chicagoans Michael and Frances Higgins — the husband-wife team who in the 1950s rediscovered and refined the ancient art of glass fusing — created Higgins Studio, known for its boldly colored and geometrically designed bowls, plates, and other objects. Now in the hands of the couple’s chosen successors, Louise and Jonathan Wimmer, the Higgins style and techniques — essentially creating a “glass sandwich” of colored enamels and broken shards — manifest in new pieces available at Signature Palm Springs.
