Las Fuentes means “The Fountains” in Spanish, and owner Don Karvelis has nestled the four unique fountains that decorate Las Fuentes Inn and Gardens in Palm Springs within a botanical extravaganza of almost 300 desert plants and cacti.

“Everything from the cacti to the bougainvillea to the hibiscus has been planted in the optimum places for sun and color in addition to providing a stunning backdrop for the fountains on the property,” he says.

You will encounter four fountains scattered throughout the property.

Karvelis, a member of the Desert Horticultural Society of the Coachella Valley, is also a world traveler who has spent summers in Austria, Hungary, Turkey, Scotland, and Kenya, while organizing tours to Europe and the Caribbean.

His décor for this single suite bed and breakfast located on a peaceful cul-de-sac in South Palm Springs meshes contemporary and Native American. The international touch comes from the Green Wing macaw from the jungles of Bolivia that he has owned for 40 years.

Tall ceilings, warm earth tones, and Native American inspired design welcome the guests to this private villa.

Las Fuentes’ back garden boasts a 60-foot saltwater lap pool with a backboard for water basketball, an outdoor shower, and a large covered patio where breakfast is served each morning. There is also a badminton court on site, direct access to a walking trail along the Palm Canyon Wash, and complimentary use of bicycles for guests.

The large suite has distinctive amenities, including an authentic harpsichord if you would like to play a little Bach, and a Japanese spa complete with steam, rain shower and regular heads, jacuzzi tub, and massage chair. Robes are provided.

The bed can double as a couch.

A built-in queen bed with a top-of-the-line mattress doubles as an oversize sofa during the day. The bar refrigerator is stocked with gratis wine, champagne, iced tea and water. An extensive book and DVD library offers plenty of titles.

If menu selections are submitted by 5 p.m. the previous day, breakfast is an extraordinary experience. Think Finnish oven-baked pancakes with handmade turkey- cranberry sausage, or cheese omelet with homemade tomato compote, in addition to other homemade choices. You may eat in-suite, in the house dining room, or on the back patio.

Nestled at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, Las Fuentes Inn and Gardens offers serenity and privacy.
