Versace on location in Palm Springs for its summer 2012 fashion shoot

With wide-open spaces, mountain backdrops, and the allure of year-round summer, the Greater Palm Springs area draws many luxury fashion houses — including Tom Ford, Tag Heuer, Victoria’s Secret, and Louis Vuitton — to shoot their image campaigns in the California desert. But it was Versace’s summer 2012 ads that cranked up the heat with steamy sapphire-hued images of supermodel Gisele Bundchen. Donatella Versace told Vogue, “I was thinking of sirens and mermaids … and their hot sexuality.” That’s likely why she chose Bundchen, the highest-paid model for the seventh year running, earning $45 million last year alone. Celebrity photography duo Mert & Marcus captured the siren at an abandoned pool a few blocks from Korakia Pensione (one of Versace’s favorite Palm Springs hot spots). So if you see a tall blond in heels in sexy poses, don’t rub your eyes; she’s probably just in America’s next top photo shoot.
