Palm Springs Life magazine and publisher Milton W. Jones were honored at the Palm Springs Historical Society’s annual Pioneer Picnic held at O’Donnell Golf Club Nov. 10. Jones was praised by Greg Hough, Historical Society president, and PSL Editor Steven Biller for the changes that the magazine has brought to the Coachella Valley and to the magazine industry.
“Magazines have tried to copy Palm Springs Life but none of them have been able to do it,” Biller said. Despite some gentle roasting, Biller emphasized the impact that Jones and PSL have had on major events held in the Coachella Valley, introducing them and the valley to the rest of the world.
The Palm Springs Historical Society is a non-profit organization founded in 1955 by the late Melba Berry Bennett. Its Mission is to record, preserve and display historical artifacts of the Palm Springs area. Headquarters are at The Village Green Heritage Center, a park like setting comprised of two 19th century pioneer homes, The McCallum Adobe built in 1884 and Miss Cornelia Whites “Little House” built from abandoned railroad ties in 1893. Memorabilia inside both houses bring Palm Springs pioneers and their history to life for visitors.
