A venture company called Zafirro answers the question with a nonelectric razor that costs more than the two cars in the typical family garage. For the tidy sum of $100,000, you get sapphire blades, a handle made of iridium derived from meteorites, and platinum screws holding the two together. Oh, yes, you also get 10 years of free service on a product “designed to last for generations.” Although the Zafirro Iridium (edition of 99) purportedly took 3 1/2 years of R&D, the company claims it will introduce new products this year. Zafirro has struck gold with its second product. The company has crafted a razor with an 18K gold handle, priced at $18,000. The Zafirro Gold includes four years of complimentary servicing and professional cleaning, as well as resharpening if necessary. Based on technological advances, Zafirro has doubled the number of years of complimentary servicing for its original Iridium razor from 10 to 20 years.
