5 Ways To Cool Off In Palm Springs

Beating the heat and the humidity in style

Water slides overlook the pool area at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort in Rancho Mirage.

Rancho Las Palmas Resort

"Because it's 1,200 miles from Palm Springs to Texas
But tonight it's right next door.."

Dean Martin described Palm Springs when he belted out the tune, "It Won't Cool Off" on his 1959 album "A Winter Romance."

"It just keeps burning burning burning it won't cool off.."

Summer temperatures mixed with a rare splash of Texas-like humidity in Palm Springs prompted us to search for 5 ways to keep your cool!

Las Palmas Resort
Rancho Mirage

To call the swimming area at the Las Palmas Resort a "pool area" would be an understatement.

The 33-foot pool features water slides, a lazy river and underwater music!  Little kids get the chance to play with water jets in the Toddler Pool.

Splash Café, a poolside diner, serves sandwiches, tacos and vegetarian dishes; the Marketplace serves pizza, sandwiches, dessert and coffee; Crooked Palms is the hotel bar and contains a pool table and television.

Add to it the cool, clay tile floors inside and the Las Palmas Resort makes a perfect way to keep your cool.

Tahquitz Falls
Palm Springs

Located on tribal land, Tauquitz Falls can transform.

"When you enter you are tired and weak," explains the Agua Caliente tribal website. "When you leave you are rejuvenated and energized."

The falls are part of the Tahquitz Canyon Trail, which is a two mile loop starting at the Visitor Center.

The trail is steep and rocky, but the falls refresh the mind, body and senses.

Hotel Del Marcos
Palm Springs

Positioned right next to downtown shopping, the Hotel Del Marcos dedicated the first two weeks in August to families!

Special poolside craft projects, daycare and additional pool supervision for kids give parents a chance to rest their minds and escape the summer heat.

The hotel, which was designed in 1947 by famed architect Wiliam F. Cody allows pets and also offers discounts for guests to other local attractions.

Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert

The cool edge of bronze and stark white landscape inside the Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert can exhilarate creativity.

"The current exhibition offers a glimpse into the expanding role of sculpture within post-modern practice," explains the museum," with works by Claes Oldenburg, Cal Lane, Richard Artschwager, Lynda Benglis, Bob Van Breda, and Bettina Pousttchi."

The Palm Desert Museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Thursday noon-8 p.m., with free admission from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Palm Springs Aerial Tramway
Palm Springs

No list of ways to escape the desert heat would be complete without pointing to the biggest -- literally -- option: The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.

While the Coachella Valley steams with temperatures expected to reach 117 degrees with humidity, the top of the tram forecasts highs of 78 degrees for the weekend.

With summer ride-and-dine specials, nature walks and hikes, the tram acts as the perfect getaway for the adverturist and the guest seeking some local refreshment.
