Dr. Timothy Jochen, a board-certified dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon, has lived in many places — New York City, San Francisco, New Orleans, Minnesota, Texas, Michigan, North Carolina, Orange County — but he found his happy place in Greater Palm Springs.

“I moved to the desert for a house,” he says. “I was living in San Francisco, and I was going to open a practice in Newport Beach. I was driving through the desert on my way back from Vegas. I met a realtor and he showed us a house for $150,000, and we said, ‘We’ll take it.’ I started a practice because of that.

“I could live anywhere in my profession, and I choose to live in the desert because I think it’s paradise,” Dr. Jochen says. “The quality of life is like nowhere else. The architecture is amazing. The people are fantastic. We have amenities because there are a lot of affluent people here. We have so many events that come to our town. We also have access to so many great things.”

At Contour Dermatology, Dr. Jochen finds even more happiness in curing skin disease and making people look and feel beautiful. The practice treats rashes and skin conditions and performs surgeries, mostly for cancer but also cosmetic.

“The exciting thing about dermatology is that we are on the forefront of noninvasive technologies and procedures to make people look younger and feel better about themselves,” says Dr. Jochen, who has been voted a Castle Connolly Top Doctor by his peers. He favors laser treatment for different aspects of the aging process: “It shrinks and tightens your skin, so it will not only get rid of brown spots, but also help to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles. It essentially gives you new skin so you’re starting all over.”

In addition to lasers, Contour Dermatology has a Skinny Center that offers liposuction, CoolSculpting, and other services to help patients achieve the body they’ve always wanted.

“I love getting up in the morning because so many of our patients come in feeling not as good about themselves, and they get that enthusiasm back to go participate in life and to feel good about themselves again,” says Dr. Jochen, who is also an associate professor at USC. “That’s what makes it special being in this field.”
