Desert Water Agency, Coachella Valley Water District, and the Mission Springs Water Agency serve the desert region. The Coachella Valley has two electric utility districts: Southern California Edison serves Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, Desert Hot Springs, and Thousand Palms, while Imperial Irrigation District serves La Quinta, Indio, Coachella, Bermuda Dunes, Thermal, and communities to the east.

In Palm Springs and Cathedral City, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians’ land creates a checkerboard on the map. In the eastern Coachella Valley, the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians, Cabazon Band of Mission Indians, and Augustine Band of Cahuilla Indians each hold smaller sections of land.

The higher education community in the Coachella Valley includes the two-year College of the Desert, as well as Palm Desert campuses for University of California, Riverside and California State University, San Bernardino. The map also pinpoints the area’s high schools with career academies, as well as other high schools and a delineation of the three school districts: Palm Springs Unified, Desert Sands Unified, and Coachella Valley Unified.
