Tachevah: A Palm Springs Block Party

Coachella gives the average music lover a chance to be fully immersed in the world of indie rock. However, with ticket prices being what they are, and the event's popularity growing at such a rapid speed, it may seem next to impossible to score access.

Thankfully, there's Tachevah, a Palm Springs Block Party (Spa Resort Casino , 401 E. Amado Road,  Palm Springs). The free concert, which gets underway today (April 17), will not only feature amazing local bands, but will also showcase scheduled Coachella act, Passion Pit.

Each of the artists who will grace the stage hail from the Coachella Valley (excluding Passion Pit, who are originally from Boston-Cambridge, Mass.) and were chosen from thousands of submissions to play at the event.

Tachevah is free and open to the public. Access to the venue will be granted as early as 5 p.m. There's plenty of free parking available at the Prairie Schooner parking lot, the Desert Fashion Plaza parking structure, and the Spa Resort Casino lot.

Event organizers are asking that the public refrain from bringing in items like containers, coolers, outdoor furniture, or leaving any bags unattended. Public cooperation is greatly appreciated. The scheduled lineup is as follows:

Schedule:
5:45 p.m.: Tribesmen -- Sounds like: Grizzly Bear, [early] Walkmen, Interpol. Cool facts: The Tribesmen are completely instrumental.
6:30 p.m.: You Me & Us -- Sounds like: The White Stripes, Best Coast. Cool facts: You Me & Us hail from Bermuda Dunes.
7:15 p.m.: Pedestrians -- Sounds like: Ozomatli, Fishbone. Cool facts: the Pedestrians fuse jazz and grassroots rock into its sound.
8 p.m.: DJ Alf Alpha -- Sounds like: a pretty amazing master turntablist. Cool facts: DJ'd at this year's Dinah Shore Weekend.
9:20 p.m.: Passion Pit -- Sounds like: The sonic manifestation of Shakespeare's a Midsummer Night's Dream. Cool facts: Passion Pit's hit single Moth's Wings was completed the day Barack Obama was elected president in 2008.
