The desert is always brimming with talented musicians, and it becomes a live music mecca this time of year with the arrival of bands and DJs from all over the world.

Many of these performers hit non-festival stages between concert weekends and play shows in intimate venues. Go see the string of stellar recording artists scheduled to appear at the legendary Pappy & Harriet’s outdoor stage in Pioneertown, including neo-psychedelic Caribou on April 9; songstress Jenny Lewis on April 14; trip-pop masters Jamie xx and Jon Hopkins on April 16; and Hivern Discs featuring electronica acts John Talabot, Pional, and Marc Pinol, also on April 16 at the indoor stage.

Also check out Tachevah: A Palm Springs Block Party, slated midway between the two Coachella weekends on April 15 outside the Spa Resort Casino in downtown Palm Springs. This free, four-hour celebration of indie music features a Coachella headline artist and unsigned local bands selected for the event through fan votes and three preshows. This year, the third edition of Tachevah is expected to draw more than 12,000 people. Buzz trolley rides to nightclubs and restaurants are available following the show.
