Child star spent a lot of time promoting events in Palm Springs

In preparation for the Calvary Ball on April 10, 1942 in the gardens of The Desert Inn, publicity shots were taken with actress Shirley Temple and officers at the Field Club.

Visiting officers and their ladies led attendees into the Calvary Ball in a Grand March that began the city of Palm Springs’ celebration of the Victory Springs Festival.

Temple was a frequent visitor to the desert, even having a room named after her at The Desert Inn.

After her acting days were over, Temple became active politically to serve as ambassador to Czechoslovakia and other diplomatic posts under President George H.W. Bush.

The Palm Springs Historical Society will share a weekly story whose time and place corresponds with today.
