Midcentury Modern at Escena Grill
Style and substance: Executive Chef Oscar Ayala’s tasty cuisine pairs perfectly with the stunning environs of the Escena Grill.
Award-winning architect Douglas Fredrikson recaptures the essence of Palm Springs’ Midcentury modern design with Escena Golf Club. Situated just a few minutes from central Palm Springs at Vista Chino and Gene Autry Trail, Escena’s Clubhouse and Grill offers breathtaking vistas of the San Jacinto and Santa Rosa mountains and the Jack Nicklaus-designed championship golf course. Its classic angular, freeform architecture in glass, steel, concrete, and rock mirrors the ageless, towering Mount San Jacinto.
In a salute to the fun-loving midcentury lifestyle, playful focal points include abstract martini glasses, spun steel swizzle sticks that pierce circular holes in the winged entrance and expansive patio roofs, plunging into a pool of water. Abstract spun steel martini shapes in a rectangular pool replicate the theme.
Circular roof cutouts illuminate the Albert Frey-inspired entry breezeway.
Inside, expansive windows and open floor space frame the stunning golf course and mountain views at every table. Sage green accents, curved butter cream couches, and teak furnishings offer contemporary comfort. A dramatic circular “fire and ice” pit at the entrance and cozy rock fireplace at the rear invite lounging. A mod textured-wall private dining room seats 20; an outdoor event lawn accommodates parties of up to 300.
Escena Grill transcends what is typically expected of golf club fare, offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner from the chrome-and-glass exhibition kitchen for golfers and non-golfers alike.
Executive Chef Oscar Ayala brings expertise in American and South American cuisine to Escena. From hearty appetizers, burgers, salads, and sandwiches to delectable filet mignon, New York steak and daily fish specials, you will find your niche at Escena Grill. Shown in photo below: Executive Chef Oscar Ayala was taught at an early age by his grandmother to love to cook and to be consistent in his culinary endeavors. His extensive menu reflects his experience in many chain restaurants before he moved into the country club environment and perfected the finer points of his presentation. Clockwise from left, a brunch specialty off Eggs Tenderloin, two poached eggs atop sliced Filet Mignon on an English Muffin; a dinner entrée of Roasted Halibut with Fingerling Potatoes, Sautéed Baby Spinach, Passion Fruit, and Shrimp Beurre Blanc; one of their most popular lunch items the Escena Club Sandwich: all-natural Turkey, with Applewood Smoked Bacon, and Avocado piled high on sourdough bread with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Shown with champagne served with brunch and the Signature Escena Martini.
