Of the more than 100 photo posts Lucy Liu has made to Instagram, one awarded her a two-night hotel stay at the Marriott Courtyard in Palm Springs, dinner for two at a premiere restaurant and passes to cool off at Knott's Soak City.

"I really had low expectations, and I wasn't thinking I could win," says Liu. "I thought it would be fun, and it was a good topic."

The "it' was Palm Springs LIfe's "90 Days of Summer" contest on Instagram, which asked for photos to be posted to Instagram that best represented summer in Palm Springs along with the proper hastags: #90daysofsummer #pslife #regram.

Liu chose to create a collage of four photos: the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, Thursday VillageFest, Toscana Country Club and a pool shot from a local hotel in her post. Liu actually took the photo at VillageFest with her smartphone.

"I just thought they represented what summer is like here," she said.

Liu went from visiting her snowbird aunt in the Coachella Valley to moving here two years ago. She landed a job working with local businesses, and the closest she has come to fame prior to winning the Palm Springs Life contest was being confused for the actress she shares the same name with. That Lucy Liu starred in the "Charlie's Angels" movie in 2000.
