“Dad, there is nothing to do in the summer. It’s just too hot.”

Jody Erdahl has had heard this all too often from his four kids. But rather than tell his kids to find something to do, Erdahl, an electrical contractor, actually created that something: Erdahl’s Rock’n’Roll Mini Golf in La Quinta.

“I decided it was time to do something for the kids, but something adults would like, too,” says Erdahl, who incorporated his love of classic rock music into a club-style golf arena, essentially putting a modern twist on traditional “putt putt” golf.

Opened just four months ago, the family-owned business offers a much-needed alternative for staying cool during the hot summer months. From the moment you enter the black-lit entry, your rock-star adventure begins. Music fills your ears as fluorescent lights from a jammin’ game arcade provide a show of brilliant of color.

Golf Like a Rock Star
Miniature golfers journey 18 holes through a virtual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with sophisticated graffiti caricatures of Elvis, Tina Turner, Mick Jagger, and Freddie Mercury to enhance their swings. Don a pair of 3-D glasses and the personalities spring to life in a musical tribute.

Black lighting further showcases the glowing walls, popping with the help of laser lights, fog effects, and strobe lights. Hole No. 10 is dedicated to AC/DC and their famed song “Highway to Hell,” where golfers must putt over a fiery bridge.

As guests play through the ADA-compliant course, they are treated to rock-related obstacles like the “Devil’s Rock Horns” and other nostalgic props. (Think: large replica of Jagger’s lips.)

Rock On!
Erhahl’s vision has been three years in the making. With the success of this venture, he is currently considering expanding into an existing 2,500-square-foot space next door to bring indoor laser tag to the desert.
