A Fan FavoriteLegions of fans followed Arnold Palmer’s storied golf career. An equally loyal army of fans who follow great food and drink has kept Arnold Palmer’s Restaurant in the winner’s circle for the past eight years. Executive Chef Brett Maddock takes the menu, the service, and the atmosphere to a higher level each season to the delight of longtime patrons and newcomers alike. The restaurant’s new Wine Room has proved to be a popular destination for personalized, private events from birthdays and anniversaries to wine dinners seating up to 20 people. Rich wood cabinetry and an elegant stone fireplace provide the backdrop for the restaurant’s impressive 2,000-bottle wine cellar. Says Chef Maddock, “We can create special menus for any occasion, and the Wine Room has its own sound system so guests can plug in an iPod and provide their own background music.” The restaurant’s wine program — recognized by Wine Spectator with its Award of Excellence — is now under the direction of General Manager and well-known “wine guy” Dustin Nichols. “Dustin brings a wealth of wine expertise and front-of-the-house skills to the table,” observes Chef Maddock. “I’m concentrating my efforts in the kitchen to update our menu with tastingplate selections to give patrons more opportunities for sharing food and pairing wine.” The restaurant’s interior is fresh and updated but the wow factor still comes from the impressive collection of Arnie memorabilia placed throughout. Diners can choose from the British Room, the Masters Room, the U.S. Room, and the Palmer Room. Arnie’s Pub and patio dining are other wonderful options, with the outdoor putting green and fire pit as added attractions. Arnie’s Pub opens at 3 p.m., just in time for after-golf enjoyment, and features an extremely popular happy hour with live entertainment. Fan favorite foods include American classics and progressive cuisine, including seasonal chef’s creations such as Lemon and Herb Baked Steelhead Salmon, Steakhouse Selections featuring all-natural beef, and Arnie’s Favorites comfort foods such as Meatloaf with Mashed Potato and Gravy. Arnold Palmer's is open for dinner nightly from 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5 to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Reservations are recommended. 78164 Avenue 52, La Quinta, California 92253 By Gayl Biondi Additional InformationPrice Range: $$$$ Great Restaurants: 2010 ![]() Pan Seared Australian Lamb Chop with glazed Artichokes, Baby Carrots, Peas, Brussel Sprouts and Porcini Ravioli; Imported and Domestic Cheese Tasting. Arnold Palmer's, along with Ruth's Chris, are my favorite desert city restaurants. The service, drinks and food are all top shelf. I really like the combination of home-style items along with steaks and seafood.
