Thursday, Feb. 21
7 a.m.: The USA Modern Pentathlon 2013 World Cup features skilled horsemen competing in a series of five events to qualify for the International World Cup. Began Feb. 20 and runs through Feb. 24, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily at Sunrise Park in Palm Springs.

10 a.m to 1 p.m.: The 25th annual Frank Sinatra Celebrity Invitational promises two days of golf and three nights of parties at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, Feb. 21-23. Golf will be played at The Eagle Falls Golf Course in Indio. Hosted by Barbara Sinatra and Ken Venturi. Proceeds benefit the Barbara Sinatra Children's Center at Eisenhower Medical Center in Palm Desert.

Noon: Luxury jewelry designer Ippolita Rostagno (pictured left) will greet customers at Saks Fifth Avenue store on El Paseo in Palm Desert. Free to the public.

5-9 p.m.: Seattle artist Milan Heger will exhibit a mix of paintings and mix media at archangel art collective in the Uptown Design District of Palm Springs, revealing his childhood memories of growing up in Czechoslovakia under Communist control.

7 p.m.: Robert Kline, a former executive with Twentieth Century Fox, will show clips of Oscar-nominated films as a preview to the Feb. 24 Academy Awards at the Rancho Mirage Public Library. Oscar history and a Q&A session. Free to the public.

7-10 p.m.: Set against the backdrop of the AMC series "Mad Men" and the place where actor Jon Hamm did his photo shoot for GQ Magazine, this cocktail fundraiser by the Architecture and Design Council focuses on the Edward Harris Pavilion that will house exhibitions and programs plus a Wall of Fame recognizing outstanding architects of the Coachella Valley.

8 p.m.: Stepping out for College of the Desert, a fundraiser featuring performers Bebe Neuwirth and Brian Stokes Mitchell at the McCallum Theatre.

Dinner suggestion: Margarita's in Palm Springs featuring Mexican, seafood and sushi foods.

Friday, Feb. 22
10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: The Modern Living Expo returns for the final weekend of Modernism Week. Also check out the Prefab Showcase featuring the very latest in prefab housing and technology. The tent is located behind the Hilton Palm Springs. $10 at the door.

10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: A replica of the Veterans Memorial Wall with 100 percent of the names will be on display at the Palm Springs Air Museum outside on the tarmac. Included with regular museum admission and free to Vietnam Vets. Open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 23 and 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 24.

3-9 p.m.: Classic Car lovers will be coming to Palm Springs in droves for the 54th annual McCormick's Palm Springs Collector Car Auction in the parking lot of the Spa Casino. Features more than 500 vehicles. Admission is free on Feb. 22, $15 per person on Feb. 23 and 24. Runs 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 23, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 24.

6 p.m.: Winemaker Charles Smith (pictured right) will be poolside at the Riviera with modern and retro foods prepared by the hotel's executive chef, Jesse Souza.

7 p.m.:  Doug Montgomery plays on the concert grand piano for the 24th season at Vicky's of Santa Fe in Indian Wells.

9 p.m.: Kathy Griffin brings her cutting edge comedy to The Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage.

Dinner suggestion: The Catalan Restaurant in Rancho Mirage with its 3-course pre-fixe menu.

Saturday, Feb. 23
8:30 a.m.: Alice Parker, who collaborated with the late Robert Shaw, will conduct an all-day workshop for singers, choral directors and those with an interest in music at the Church of St. Paul in the Desert in Palm Springs.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: The Vintage Trailer Show (pictured left) allows patrons to tour 20 interiors of travel trailers in the parking lot behind the Palm Springs Hilton as part of Modernism Week.

11 a.m.: 26th annual Black History Parade and Town Fair. Parade begins in downtown Palm Springs, and the fair begins at noon at Frances Stevens Park, 555 N. Palm Canyon Drive.

11 a.m. to 8 p.m.: 17th annual Palm Desert Greek festival at St. George Greek Orthodox Church of the Desert in Palm Desert. Live Greek music and traditional folk dance, homemade Greek foods, gyros, lamb chops, cooking demonstrations, church tours. Hosted this year by Greek/American actress Jenni Pulos of Bravo TV's "Flipping Out" and "Interior Therapy". Same hours on Feb. 24.

Noon to 9 p.m.: Shorty's Rib Fest gives rib overs a chance to sample of variety from chiefs competing for $10,000 in cash prizes, plus live entertainment, kids zone, themed activities and eating competitions. Takes place on Highway 111 near Cathedral City's City Hall by the Mary Pickford Theater

1-4 p.m.: Fourth annual "Taste of La Quinta" in the Old Town district with wine tasting,food and live music.Moby

2 p.m.: Moby on Modernism featuring the Grammy-nominated artist (pictured right) who blogs about L.A. architecture. He will be paired with KCRW's Frances Anderton, host of Design and Architecture, at the Ace Hotel.

8 p.m.: The Ten Tenors bring a new show and a wide range of music genres to the McCallum Theatre.

Dinner suggestion: Davey's Hideaway Restaurant, 292 E. Palm Canyon Drive, featuring seafood, steaks and veal.

Sunday, Feb. 24
9 a.m.: See the beautiful wildflowers of the desert at Joshua Tree National Park. This all-day field class allows participants to get to know the plants led by Desert Naturalist Darrell Shade.

4:30 p.m.: View the Oscars telecast with a meal at Trio Restaurant in Palm Springs.

7 p.m.: Hear the real singer behind the smash Broadway musical, "Jersey Boys". Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons (pictured left) perform at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio.

Brunch suggestion: Las Casuelas Nuevas in Rancho Mirage with Mexican favorites, breakfast items and dessert table.

Not Your Ordinary Yard Sale
Modernism Week concludes Feb. 24 with a Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot at 1701 N. Palm Canyon hosted by Paul Kaplan Modern Real Estate Group and Modern Bear. More than 20 vendors with mid-century modern treasures.
