Thursday, Feb. 14

12:30 p.m.: The Marrakesh Country Club Designer Showcase has slots open in the afternoon as part of Modernism Week. Find out why it's known as "The Jewel of the Desert".
2 p.m.: Author Philip Ferranti may not be a household name, but he knows everything about hiking in the Coachella Valley. Meet him at his book signing at the Rancho Mirage Public Library.
4 p.m.: The Opening Ceremony for Palm Springs Modernism Week will take place at the Birba (pictured right), 622 N. Palm Canyon Drive, and also kicks off three first night of Illuminated Modern that showcases architecture along Palm Canyon Drive.
6 p.m.: Opening preview party for the Palm Springs Fine Art Fair, which benefits the Palm Springs Art Museum. VIP pass required.
Dinner suggestion: Special 3-course Valentine's Day menu at Three Sixty North Restaurant in Palm Springs.
Friday, Feb. 15
10 a.m.: How about some shopping followed by lunch for a good cause. Big Hearts for Little Hearts Desert Guild holds its 11th annual Boutique and Luncheon at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa in Rancho Mirage.
4-8 p.m.: Opening reception for Coachella Valley artist Linda Maxson at Howard's Backdoor Gallery and Custom Frame in Rancho Mirage.
5-8 p.m..: Artist Joe Graziano realizes a dream of his own studio with the grand opening of Studio 55 on El Paseo in Palm Desert.
7 p.m.: "Remembering the 1960s" features tributes to four legends - Paul Anka, Neil Diamond, Dionne Warwick and Cher. Quite a cross-section of some amazing music at the Indian Wells Theater at Cal State Bernardino's Palm Desert Campus.
9 p.m.: Boyz II Men brings their special spooned to The Morongo Casino Resort and Spa in Canazon.
Dinner suggestion: Mitch's on El Paseo - choose from surf, turf and sushi.
Saturday, Feb. 16
8 a.m.: Head out to Joshua Tree National Park for a 10-mile cross country loop and see the beauty of the desert behind the Eagle Mountains. Make sure you are physically up to this jaunt.
10 a.m.: The First Tee Coachella Valley Third Annual Invitational Tournament benefits kids who would normally not be exposed to the game of golf. After golf, there is cocktails, dinner and awards/silent auction at the Classic Club in Palm Desert.
10 a.m.: Modernism Week's Modern Living Expo showcases the best in home furnishings and accessories from high tech to green living. $10 at the door or available online. Set up at the pavilion directly behind the Palm Springs Hilton Hotel at North Calle El Segundo and East Andreas Road in PS.
6 p.m.: To benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Palm Springs, Palm Springs Pathfinders slates its gala featuring cocktails, dinner, entertainment, silent auction and dancing at the Ranco Las Palmas Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage.
8 p.m.: Bonnie Rait (pictured left), who just won a Grammy for Best Americana Album, "Slipstream", will appear at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio.
Dinner suggestion: The El Dorado Supper Club in Joshua Tree will present a Tanti Baci Italian Dinner with seatings at 6 and 9 p.m.
Sunday, Feb. 17
10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Check out the Pan Am Exhibit at The Saguaro in Palm Springs. More than 3,000 items in the collection of actor Philip Keene, known for his role on "The Closer" and now "Major Crimes on TNT.
Noon to 5 p.m.: View the drawings of artist Robert Cullison featuring Modernism "Architecture, Decor and Automobiles" at the Nicole Barosi Gallery in Palm Springs.
2 p.m.: "After the Fall" runs Feb. 15-17 at Palm Canyon Theatre, 538 N. Palm Canyon, in Palm Springs. Authur Miller's autobiographical play has a man examining his life and failed marriage with Marilyn Monroe.
5 p.m.: The Living Desert's major fundraiser includes gourmet food, silent auction and live music at The Renaissance Esmeralda in Indian Wells.
Brunch suggestion: At the Riviera's Circa 59 in Palm Springs.
Make it a Date
That's date as in the edible one. The 67th annual Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival opens Feb. 15 and runs through the 24th at the Riverside County Fairgrounds, 82-503 Highway 111, in Indio. Open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays, and until midnight on weekends. There is pig racing, camel and ostrich races, cooking with dates, livestock auction and much more.
