Fashion Week El Paseo Reveals 2014 Lineup

JM Couture debuts, Project Runway is back and Zang Toi is Designer of the Week

Fashion Week El Paseo 2014 will mark the debut of JM Couture, the return of Project Runway and internationally acclaimed Zang Toi as Designer of the Week, March 16-22, under the Toscana Country Club Runway Tent in Palm Desert.

Susan Stein, fashion editor at Palm Springs Life, presented the highlights Jan. 16 at the home of the title sponsor, Saxony Group, in Palm Desert.

Last year’s edition ran nine days and drew more than 13,000, and the new schedule will continue to pack a formidable fashion punch.

Runway shows will be presented each night with a smattering of daytime events beginning with the Style & Beauty Bash to kick-off Fashion Week from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 16. More than 30 salons and spas will deliver a variety of services from hair styling to spray tanning.

Running concurrently will be “An Extreme Hair and Make-up Showcase” and a collection of more than 20 designers and stores displaying and selling fashion and beauty products.

New to the El Paseo fashion scene is Jim Mullin, whose JM Couture collection will cross all styles of clothing from gowns to sportswear during its March 20 runway show. A subsidiary of The Saxony Group, JM Couture will open its flagship store on El Paseo.

Palm Springs’ own Project Runway alum, Michael Costello, will bring five designers who have appeared on the reality TV show to showcase their collections March 19. The Project Runway Superstars include Uli Herzner, Viktor Luna, Ari for Andy South, Irena Shabayeva, and Helen Castillo.

New York City designer Toi will show why he is an established name in the haute couture world with stars like Sharon Stone, Meg Ryan, Kirstie Alley and Fergie from The Black Eyed Peas wearing his styles.

Other runway highlights include Le Chien presents “Famous Dogs of Hollywood” to benefit Humane Society of the Desert; Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising featuring Project Runway Season 12 graduate Bradon McDonald; El Paseo Runway Night presents “Street Seen on El Paseo”, and The Best of Saks Fifth Avenue.

Since its inception in 2005, Fashion Week El Paseo has supported more than 100 local charities including Fashion Group International Inc., The Girlfriend Factor, Variety, The Children’s Charity, Junior League of Palm Springs Desert Communities, Desert Outreach and the Humane Society of the Desert.
