VILLAGEFEST
Ask the Rabbi

If you have ever walked Palm Canyon Drive during this weekly Thursday night street fair, perhaps you've seen the small table and sign that prompts, Ask the Rabbi. Rabbi Yonason Denebeim has been answering questions for more than 25 years. Watch our VIDEO to see a day-in-the-life of Rabbi Denebeim on a typical Thursday night.

College of the Desert
Not to be outdone, College of the Desert's Palm Desert campus is the site of its own Street Fair from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through May.

Open Air Market
Just down the street from the Spa Casino in downtown Palm Springs, vendors gather every Saturday only market from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. through May.

FILM
25th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival

Now that the movie stars have come and gone, it's all about the movies. The festival closes this weekend. The Closing Night Gala Jan. 12 features the film, "Le Week-End" with Jeff Goldblum, Jim Broadbent and Lindsay Duncan. (pictured at right). The movie will show at 5:30 p.m. at Palm Springs High School. Check out our Insider's Guide.

Best of the Best
If you want to watch what were graded as the best entries of the Palm Springs International Film Festival, check the festival website for a list of the "Best of the Best" movies set to screen Jan. 13. Visit www.psfilmfest.org for the schedule.

"Lone Survivor"
When his best friend, actor Mark Wahlberg, called him to say he was going to star in the film, producer Randall Emmett, who lives part-time in La Quinta, took notice. NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION
Mayor's Race and Wellness Festival

So like you do every year, you resolve to either lose weight or spend less time binge-watching "The Walking Dead" and get out and exercise. Here's the first step. Palm Springs Mayor Steve Poughnet has brought in Tae Bo inventor Billy Blanks (pictured at left) and Doonya creators Priya Pandya and Kajal Desai to get you motivated. Read our profile of pilates expert Cassey Ho, who will also lead a workout at the Jan. 11 event.

Humana Well-Being Walk, Healthy Fair
La Quinta hosts this pro-exercise event with a 5.75-mile walk along the Bear Creek Path at 9 a.m. Jan. 11. There are four rest stops with snacks and water, followed by a Humana Healthy Fun Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with things to do for the whole family at La Quinta Community Park.

Lecture Series

The Rancho Mirage Public Library hosts a great speaker series beginning with a series of lectures Jan. 9 on U.S. history from post World War II to the assassination of JFK by Dr. William Gudelunas.

The Living Desert

See this Palm Desert treasure like you never have before, exploring the zoo from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. starting Jan. 10 to see what animals come out when the sun goes down.

Author Judi Hollis will sign her new book about how she found her soul and lost her fat from 2-4 p.m. Jan. 11 at Just Fabulous in Palm Springs.

TAIRA

She goes by only one name. Think Cher. Madonna. Except TAIRA has made a name for herself in the art world. See her latest exhibit of paintings and sculptures starting Jan. 10 at Colin Fisher Studios in Cathedral City. 75 Years at the Palm Springs Art Museum
This new exhibition installed on the lower level chronicles the museum's 75 years interspersed are selected artworks. Open through April 6.

In conjunction with The Clinton Foundation Health Matters Initiative, Tumblr and Jawbone, the Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs will conduct the final part of a four-part series, which has been a competition of using technology to make in-roads in healthcare. Teams will develop their applications Jan. 10-11 and have them judged Jan. 12 at the hotel.

Snoop Dog
He has a new moniker, Snoop Lion, and you'll hear songs from his latest album, Reincarnation. The man should know something about reinventing himself. See him Jan. 11 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Coachella.

MAKE ME LAUGH
Improv Comedy Club

Fantasy Springs Resort Casino opens its Improv Comedy Series Jan. 10 with Dat Phan, Ronnie Schell and David Gee. Phan won the first season of NBC's Last Comic Standing.

Kathleen Madigan
She brings her one-woman show Jan. 11 to the Spotlight 29 Casino in Indio. Madigan (pictured at right) has her third standup special coming soon on Netflix.

A free concert in the Rancho Mirage home of Julian Di Curcio and Rob Burrington benefits the Steinway Society at 5 pm. Jan. 11.

The Great Gatsby
Not the movie, but the theme for a Hearts for Art Gala 2014 fundraiser, which provides art opportunities for a number of Coachella Valley organizations. The gala starts at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 11 at the la Quinta Resort and Club.

St. George Golf Tournament
The 19th annual benefits St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Palm Desert. Tee-off is Jan. 11at the Classic Club Golf Course in Palm Desert.

SPORTS
Sunday Polo

Matches take place every Sunday through March at the Empire Polo Club in Indio. General admission is free, but there is also VIP seating for a charge. Over at the Eldorado Polo Club also in Indio, matches run noon to 2 p.m. through March and tailgating is encouraged.
