Re-enforcing it’s reputation for hosting fresh events and enhancing the Coachella Valley’s trend-setting party scene, the Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs continues its summer pool-side run featuring emerging artists under the Anticon record label.

Anticon is celebrating 15 years as a creative independent pioneer, promoting Los Angeles’ electronic music, radical hip-hop and left-field rock and outsider pop.

Kicking off the fun at 10 p.m. Aug. 2 both poolside and in the Amigo Room, Anticon comes to the desert to put on a weekend of good sound with Daedelus, D33J, Low Limit, Baths and Sodapop.

Shaun Koplow, label manager for Anticon, has used his own curating and DJ skills to program this weekend’s free event, and gave a brief overview of what the Ace Hotel audience can expect:

Why has this venue become a good market for this kind of music?
“The Ace Hotel has been a positive force in Palm Springs for adventurous music. In my experience, the clientele allows you to be a bit further reaching, as it's something they might expect at the Ace.”

What do you, as a producer, like about coming to Palm Springs?
“I think it's stating the obvious, but we do it because we enjoy the venue that is the Ace and playing music for people. Being that we're all based in Los Angeles, it's nice to get away to a place that is close yet just far enough away to feel like you're really some place else. It's a vacation.”

What can someone expect that has limited exposure to this kind of music?
“They should definitely expect something different. The five of us playing have quite varied and broad tastes. One should expect anything from experimental up-tempo electronic music to top 40 rap and things all around.”

Anticon Weekend continues Aug. 3 from noon to 6 p.m. poolside and at 10 p.m.in the Amigo Room, and poolside from noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 4.

The Amigo Room is open to those 21 and older, and the pool parties are for all ages. Pool parties are free to hotel guests and Swim Club pass holders. Day passes to the pool cost $20 and includes all-day access to the pool and hot tub, gym, sauna and steam room
