Thursday, July 11
1-8 p.m.: The second largest amateur boxing tournament comes to the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino Special Events Center, July 9-13. Single-elimination matches run each day from 1-8 p.m. featuring a list of local hopefuls.

7 p.m.: The Riviera Palm Springs serves up specialty drinks and food for its "Hot as Hell" Pool Parties from 7-10 p.m. every Thursday through Oct. 31.

6 p.m.: The free film screenings continue at the Palm Springs Art Museum with the comedy "Like Kills Me" from Chile.

7 p.m.: No lack of talent when it comes to The Rojer Arnold Band's appearance at Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown, featuring world class violinist Bob Furgo.

Friday, July 12

7 p.m.: The Hi-Desert Cultural Center in Twentynine Palms will host the work of playwright Stephen Bittrich's new theatrical comedy, "Home of the Great Pecan", which closes this weekend at the center's Blak Box Theater. Bittrich's outlandish tale focuses on UFOs and romance in Seguin, Texas in the mid-1980s.

7 p.m.: The St. Joseph's Players present "Steel Magnolias" at the St. Joseph of Arimathea Church's Rusack Parish Hall, 56312 Onaga Trail, Yucca Valley. Shows again at 7 p.m. July 13 and 2 p.m. July 14.

7:05 p.m.: The Palm Springs Power host the Inland Valley Rebels at Palm Springs Stadium.

8 p.m.: "Pippin" will close out the season for Palm Canyon Theatre in Palm Springs. The play recently won the Tony award for "Best Revival of a Play". Read our preview.

8 p.m.: Dog and Butterfly, a Heart tribute band, will scream out "Crazy on You" and other hits in a free Friday night concert at Spotlight 29 Casino in Coachella.

8 p.m.: Knott's Soak City will stay open a few hours after its normal 6 p.m. closing time to bring kids and families its third annual "Dive-In Movie". Tonight's feature is "Kicking and Screaming". The movie season runs through Aug. 23.

8 p.m.: Bethany Owen can bring Cher, Madonna, Reba, Dolly Parton, Barbra Streisand and Marilyn Monroe alive through her musical impersonations in a 90-minute show at Azul Tapas Lounge in Palm Springs.

8 p.m.: Motown legend Smokey Robinson will sing "Tears of a Clown" and other classics at The Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula.

8 p.m.: San Francisco-based Kit and the Branded Men bring their honky tonk sound to Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown.

9 p.m.: Dancing, cool pool, eats and drinks sounds like a good recipe for your Friday nights at the "Caliente Pool Party" through Aug. 30. The Agua Caliente Casino Resort & Spa partners with FM radio station KKUU (92.7) to turn the pool into an oasis nightclub.

Dinner suggestion: Receive a $25 Dining Credit when you make reservations at Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar in Rancho Mirage.

Saturday, July 13
8:30 a.m.: The fourth annual Lemon Lily Festival & a Little Bluegrass Music opens with the Lemon Lily Blessing at the Idyllwild Nature Center. There are a host of events, seminars and music the whole weekend. Read our preview. Watch our VIDEO to hear the history of the event.

9 a.m.: A night watchman is accidentally killed while fleeing from the morgue whereto he worked. See "The Body" presented by The Desert Film Society at Camelot Theatres in Palm Springs.

1-5 p.m.: The fifth annual Micro-Brew and Chili Cook-Off returns to the Pechanga Casino Resort featuring live music.

1-8 p.m.: The second largest amateur boxing tournament comes to the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino Special Events Center, July 9-13. Single-elimination matches run each day from 1-8 p.m. featuring a list of local hopefuls.

6:45 p.m.: Director Katherine Fairfax Wright will join audience members to discuss her new documentary, "Call Me Kuchu", about Uganda's first openly gay man playing at Cinemas Palme d'Or in Palm Desert.

7:05 p.m.: The Palm Springs Power host the Inland Valley Rebels at Palm Springs Stadium.

8 p.m.: The music never stops at Pappy & Harriet's with Tall Tales and The Silver Lining, Seth Pettersen and The Undertow, and Babies on Acid slated to play for free.

9 p.m.: Get out your air guitars! Tribute band Atomic Punks rips songs from Van Halen. The tribute band hits the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino's Rock Yard stage in Indio at 9 p.m. Cover band Steel Rod starts the evening at 7 p.m. and then returns at 10:30 after the tribute band.

Dinner suggestion: Roy's in Rancho Mirage will teach you the history of Hawaii's macadamia nut with a three-course meal for $60 per person.

Sunday, July 14

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: "It's Gonna Be a Scorcher" is a the name of a group art exhibition featuring Impressions of Summer Heat at the 29 Palms Visitor Center & Gallery, 73484 29 Palms Highway at Desert Queen Avenue. Exhbit runs through Sept. 27. Open weekdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: As part of the Free Second Sundays at the Palm Springs Art Museum, kids and their parents can take their stab at watercolor painting. Artist Jason Graves will give a demonstration at 1 p.m. followed by a free film, "Robert Motherwell & The New York School: Storming The Citadel", at 2 p.m.

11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.: Dog overs unite! The 15th annual Pets on Parade luncheon, awards to the cutest pet and silent/live auctions highlight a true dog day of summer at Doral Desert Princess Resort in Cathedral City.

2 p.m.: Robyn Spangler, who is Broadway World's Best Female Cabaret Artist Los Angeles 2012, will be joined by pianist/music director Todd Schroeder at the Joslyn Center's Arthur Newman Theater in Palm Desert.

7:05 p.m.: The Palm Springs Power host the Long Beach Elite at Palm Springs Stadium.

Brunch suggestion: The Grill on Main Street in La Quinta serves brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Be sure to try the Bacon Vodka Bloody Mary.

2013 Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival
Set to run July 11-21, 155 films from 28 countries will hit the big screens from documentaries to narrative features, including three films developed in the Outfest Screenwriting Lab: "G.B.F.", :"Hot Guys With Guns" and "Pit Stop". Check the website for tickets and chances are you can get into a film as a stand-by. The Awards Reception is July 21, and there are parties and receptions every night.
