Palm Springs Life Publisher Among C-SPAN Interviews

Network will broadcast Palm Springs historical, literary culture stories from recent visit

Palm Springs Life Publisher Milt Jones will appear on a segment of “The Political Career of Sonny Bono” during a two-day Palm Springs Weekend, June 1-2, on Book TV (C-SPAN2) and American History TV (CSPAN3).

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles staff recently visited Palm Springs to gather interviews for a variety of stories on the city’s history and literary culture.

Palm Springs only content will appear starting at noon June 1 on Book TV (Time Warner Cable Channel 99) and at 5 p.m. June 2 on AHTV (Time Warner Cable Channel 335).

The AHTV features include a tour of The Annenberg Retreat at Sunnylands and the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum. There will also be stories on Betty Ford and the Betty Ford Center; the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians; General George S. Patton Museum and the World War II Training Center; The Political Career of Sonny Bono, and The History of Palm Springs.

The Book TV features include author Deanne Stillman talking about her book “Desert Reckoning: A Town Sheriff, a Mojave Hermit, and the Biggest Manhunt in Modern California History”; authors Vyola Ortner & Diana du Pont talk about their book “You Can’t Eat Dirt”; author Grace Robbins talk about her book “Cinderella and the Carpetbagger”; “The Confederate States of America: What Might Have Been” from author Roger Ransom; Palm Springs Legends: Creation of a Desert Oasis” from author Greg Neimann, and a visit to the Mizell Senior Center to hear the Cover to Cover Book Club talk about their latest read “Mao’s Last Dancer,” the biography of Chinese dancer Li Cunxin.

In partnership with Time Warner Cable, C-SPAN’s 2013 Cities Tour has taken Book TV and American History TV on the road. C-SPAN2 and C-SPAN3 are featuring the literary life and history of selected cities, including Palm Springs, during special weekends on the public affairs network.
