With passenger levels at Palm Springs International Airport continuing to post record highs in passenger traffic – up 9.3 percent compared with 2013 – Virgin America has confirmed it will return to Palm Springs next season with direct flights to San Francisco and New York.
This airport's success story is due in large part to the popularity of the city’s innovative Airline Marketing Incentive Program, according to Mayor Steve Pougnet.
“The synergy between Palm Springs and the Airlines has taken off to tremendous heights as their management continues to recognize and respond to the growing demand of visitors from around the world looking to experience our year-round sunshine and relaxed desert lifestyle,” Pougnet says. “Due to this incredible demand, the City of Palm Springs is committed to ensuring the highest level of service and we will continue to invest the necessary dollars to address the phenomenal growth of the Airport.”
Continued visitor demand has led Canadian airline WestJet to introduce double digit seat capacity with increases to Calgary and Vancouver between May and October, according to the Airport’s Executive Director Tom Nolan.
In addition, Delta Airlines will add Seattle to the PSP service network along with Salt Lake City and Minneapolis.
“Palm Springs is experiencing a historic renaissance and the Airlines now recognize that when it comes to where to stay and play on the West Coast, we are the premiere resort destination, like no place else,” says Pougnet.
