Explore Palm Springs: Oasis Hotel to Palm Mountain Resort & Spa

E. Stewart Williams firm built 1964 addition

In late 1964, a multi-story, 44-unit addition was added to the long established and very successful Oasis Hotel.

The extension, designed by Williams and Williams architects featuring E. Stewart Williams, was located just west of the already existing hostelry at the southwest corner of Belardo Road and Tahquitz Canyon Way.

Although the hotel was originally established by Palm Springs pioneer Pearl McCallum McManus, it was at this time being controlled by Western International Hotels, currently known as Westin Hotels and Resorts.

Today, the location of the addition is home to the Palm Mountain Resort & Spa. The structure’s facade has been altered, but the pool and spa maintain their original shape.

There is a multitude of ways to learn more about Palm Springs, which turned 75 in 2013. One of the more intriguing methods is by exploring the city’s history.

The Palm Springs Historical Society will share a weekly story whose time and place corresponds with today.

The Palm Springs Historical is located at 221 S. Palm Canyon Drive. For more information, visit www.pshistoricalsociety.org
