Saturday, March 21, Saks Fifth Avenue on El Paseo became the toast of the town as it put its best foot forward at El Paseo Fashion Week 2014 sending the finest of 2014 Designer apparel down the Toscana Country Club Runway Tent. The show benefitted the Coachella Valley’s Women’s Leadership Forum and Variety Children’s Charity.

High fashion was definitely the theme of the evening and was apparent in the styles worn by well-healed guests showing off their own finery. The social gathering began with a pre-show reception with hors d’oeuvres provided courtesy of Purple Room that quickly grew to party capacity. The parade of guests entered the Toscana Country Club Tent eagerly taking their seats.

In a departure from previous shows, Saks Fifth Avenue introduced famed celebrity DJ Adam 12 to score the evening’s show. The hot Los Angeles DJ took center stage, immediately, jazzing up the mood with his selection of smooth contemporary sounds.

Marking the beginning of the show, DJ Adam 12 chose to change it up and spin tunes with a hip upbeat vibe building excitement and moving guests to rock in their seats to the sounds.

Saks Fifth Avenue featured collections from New York, Paris, and Rome featuring top designers Stella McCartney, Etro, Roberto Cavalli, Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Pucci, and Ralph Lauren for women and to the delight of the crowd, Etro and Dolce & Gabbana for Men.

In keeping with current spring trends, the well-edited collections mixed soft fabrics with edgier pieces for sophisticated cosmopolitan looks easily ready for luncheon affaires or afternoon soirees. Printed silks, leather, and lace were common themes as were graphic patterns and detailed shimmering embellishments all excellently finished. Jackets were prevalent as were printed leggings, trapeze shirts, and polished attire. Black and white basics were mixed with soft pastels, however pops of bright color, cobalt blue, and fuchsia also drew attention.

Accessories for both men and women made an impression as stylists pulled together complete looks with statement jewelry and large bright bags for both men and women. The gorgeous selection of shoes including luxe high-heeled strappy patents for women and patent loafers for men stood out.

The lively crowd went wild for male models wearing an eclectic assortment of colored tropical and camouflage prints while DJ Adam 12 continued to build upon the energy as the show continued with people dancing in their seats.

With “Hot Stuff” on the track, the collection moved toward cocktail and evening attire leading with a short jacket with metal studs that drew applause.

Other hits included an elegant and modern pairing of a lovely fuchsia silk taffeta strapless ball gown with a quilted white leather crop jacket for ladies and a navy silk dinner jacket with tuxedo pants for the guys.

DJ Adam 12 didn’t skip a beat and maintained the rhythm of the room as the lights dimmed and the elated crowd became mesmerized by a stunning red floor length gown by Ralph Lauren. The finale piece has been seen recently on the red carpet worn by Academy Award winning actress Lupita Nyong’o — a perfect end to a show defining Saks Fifth Avenue’s dedication to deluxe style and service.

The revelry continued as the Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert joined Saks Fifth Avenue to host an after party featuring deejay jams and late-night bites courtesy of Mastro’s and Tommy Bahamas.
