The evening began with a pre-show cocktail reception and pop up jewelry boutique by Frasca Jewelers to support The Girlfriend Factor, a nonprofit that provides educational grants to women.

As the fashion show was about to begin, well-known keyboardist Rami Jaffee and his all-star cover band, Bitch, took to the stage, providing a musical background that enlivened the room.

The crowd went quiet as El Paseo Jewelers presented a collection of rare gems, with models draped in soft fabrics of sea foam, aqua, and ocean blues. As if rising gifts from sea, diamonds, emeralds, rubies, and pearls became adrift in rhythmic perfection to the wave of music.

The atmosphere livened up with the beat as a diverse mix of El Paseo’s stores presented an array of exciting stylish looks: swimwear celebrating island style by Tommy Bahama; beautiful upscale sundress silhouettes by BB*one; and a tasteful vintage mix by Out of the Closet.

BG’s Eclectic, Blonde Clothing Boutique, and Gabriella sent out chic, youthful looks with a bit of edge, including exotic feather headpieces, kimono wraps, denim overalls, and skinny jeans topped with graphic shirting.

Tarah Jade and Democracy specialty women’s clothiers demonstrated they had the pulse on contemporary fashion by showing refined lines with a distinctively relaxed point of view. Wide-legged pants, flowing trapeze tunics, and handkerchief skirts swayed in the breeze down the runway.

Eileen Fisher, bebe, White House/Black Market, Chico’s, and Soma focused on earthy looks in sand-and-sea hues with airy, light wardrobes that emphasized ease of movement … a dynamic departure from the form-fitting and body-skimming attire so popular in years past.

Bold statement jewelry such as oversize wrist cuffs, chokers, and chains, floated upon an ethereal white on white monochromatic dress palette that glided into the room when The Jewelry Bar took to the scene with a curated assemblage of exquisite natural treasures. The music swelled with increased drama and a hush swept over the room as metallic golds, corals, turquoise, shell, and stone made a big splash on the runway.

American mother/daughter design duo Marie and Kelly Gray, co-owners of Grayse, made a personal appearance to introduce their sophisticated point of view: upscale cocktail and daywear looks in shimmery black and white, yellow, and dazzling pink fuschia.

The finale featured El Paseo newcomer Presage, rocking a bevy of stunning evening couture adorned with elegant fine jewelry by El Paseo Jewelers.

Saxony Group Fashion Week El Paseo, a Palm Springs Life event, continues through March 28 under the Big White Tent on Larkspur Lane between Shadow Mountain and El Paseo. Visit www.fashionweekelpaseo.com for specific shows and event details.
