Liz Rose began songwriting for fun while working in what she describes as “song plugging” and publishing.

“When I moved to Nashville, I thought I might want to be in management," she says. “I had never thought about that (songwriting) in a million years. I had never written a song until I had been in publishing a bit.  I’ve just always loved music and songs.”

Although she doesn’t play an instrument, Rose has a unique talent for writing and capturing the magic of making of good music.

“I’ve never really played anything (instrument).. so I can go into any song and I don’t have a set musical sound that I’m dead set on because I don’t try and play it,” she says. “This opens me up to a lot. Many singer/songwriters have a pattern and a signature sound…which is great and I envy it. But when I hear music, I start hearing words. I won’t have anything in my brain until someone starts playing guitar or piano…and words just come.”

That ability has led to mega hits with some of the industries biggest stars including:

• Rose and Swift share co-writing credits for their 2010 Best Country Song, Grammy Award win for White Horse.

• Rose co-wrote Girl Crush with best friends Lori McKenna and Hillary Lindsey, and performed by the band Little Big Town.

It’s been a big year for Girl Crush winning 2015’s Country Music Association’s Song of the Year as well as 2016 Best Country Song at the Grammy Awards. Girl Crush is on course to achieve yet, another honor after being nominated for Song of the Year for the Academy of Country Music.

We’ve Got a Crush on You

Rose will join songwriters Leslie Winn Satcher, Tim Nichols, Bob DePierro, and Kelley Lovelace as featured speakers to talk about the stories behind their hits and the performers who have recorded them during “Songwriters Night” on March 10 at the Patrick Warbuton Celebrity Golf Tournament. The evening is hosted by HLN news anchor Robin Meade.

The tournament, which benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, runs March 6-13 with a host of activities focused around golf and music, including 5k Run/Walk and a musical Jam Session featuring popular recording artists from the 1980s like Kansas lead singer John Elefante, The Doors' Robby Krieger, REM's Mike Mills, The Eagles Don Felder and more.

In addition to penning powerhouse prose for country music’s elite, Rose is actively involved in her publishing company, Liz Rose Music. While developing her own album, she says, “I think my next thing is to see my writers under me with awards and have the success they want. To work with new artists and watch them have their dreams come true.”

And if this wizzardly wordsmith could perfect an instrument, without skipping a beat, Rose says, “A guitar, definitely.”
