ARTHUR LYONS FILM NOIR FESTIVAL
3-D movies may be all the rage in today’s Hollywood, but lovers of classic, black-and-white films whose visual effects were created by the camera will appreciate the Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival (May 13-16). 
The lineup of rarely screened, not-on-DVD films from the 1940s and ’50s includes one with a Palm Springs film location: a hot nightspot of the time called The Doll House (on Palm Canyon Drive). A ripped-from-the-headlines exposé of organized crime, 711 Ocean Drive (1950) starred Edmond O’Brien and Joanne Dru. Stars of film noir gems expected to attend for onstage discussions include June Lockhart (in 1947’s Bury Me Dead) and Tommy Cook (in 1948’s Cry of the City). Actress Julie Garfield (Goodfellas) is scheduled to appear for the screening of 1951’s He Ran All the Way, starring her father, John Garfield, who died shortly before the film’s release.
