Martha’s Village & Kitchen honors volunteers

The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Bea Perez, for her twenty years of food service and preparation at Martha’s Village & Kitchen. Bea created the menu for the first meal served to the homeless in 1990.

Martha’s Village & Kitchen recently honored its loyal volunteers with a BBQ luncheon at Martha’s Village & Kitchen in Indio. Over seventy-five volunteers enjoyed the afternoon.

Awards were presented by Father Joe, President, and John Wolohan, Executive Director, to fourteen exceptional volunteers who have given over 200 hours of their time to support Martha’s Village & Kitchen’s mission of changing lives for the homeless.

The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Bea Perez, for her twenty years of food service and preparation at Martha’s Village & Kitchen. Bea created the menu for the first meal served to the homeless in 1990. Five Friend of Martha’s Village Awards were given by department managers to recognize extra special volunteers in their departments. These included; the Medical Clinic, Case Management, Food Services and Administration.

Martha’s Village & Kitchen, now celebrating twenty years of serving neighbors in need, relies on its 200 volunteers to help break the cycle of homelessness.

It is the largest provider of comprehensive homeless services in Riverside County. Its continuum of care provides a place for people to regain their lives and includes Emergency and Transitional housing for single adults and families, Counseling, Job Skills, Career and Education Training, Medical Care and Children's Services. Martha's Village & Kitchen also provides services to the community at its Medical Clinic, Emergency Services such as food boxes, clothing vouchers, infant supplies, utility, transportation & rent assistance and a daily meal to the public. Every dollar raised for Martha's Village & Kitchen stays in the Coachella Valley to continually serve its  neighbors in need.
