Cue Lights, Music, And Action!

Laugh, sing, and dance your way through the 2011 holidays

Sherrie Rae Parker as Bette Midler, Queen of Hearts on Nov. 4 at The Club at Shenandoah Springs in Thousand Palms

This month offers a wealth of colorful, exciting theatrical productions. In addition to the majesty of riverdance at McCallum Theatre (Nov. 25-27), enjoy Indio Performing Arts Center’s gi jukebox! a stage door canteen. Courtesy of the
desert’s East Valley alternative to big theater entertainment, the show celebrates Veteran’s Day weekend (Nov. 11-14) and features all the flavor of a WWII GI show with a 1940s big band vibe and lots of surprises.

Also ripe for nostalgia is the opening matinee of the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies, which takes place at the Plaza Theatre Nov. 1 at 1:30 p.m. and features John Davidson. Catch Davidson and the Follies’ famous yuletide celebration until Dec. 31. After that, Maureen McGovern (Jan. 5-March 10) and The Diamonds (March 13-May 20) guest star. There are matinee and evening performances almost daily, so step up and experience the chorus line.

Smaller companies are also showcasing their talent. Plaid Tidings, produced by Coyote Stageworks, brings Christmas standards and nostalgia to Palm Springs’ Annenberg Theater Nov. 25-27 as the sequel to Forever Plaid. Some may remember Coyote Stageworks as the guys who kept audiences in stitches with their Greater Tuna shenanigans.

And for the best Bette in the desert, check out Sherrie Rae Parker as Bette Midler, Queen of Hearts on Nov. 4 at The Club at Shenandoah Springs in Thousand Palms. Parker’s a “Legends in Concert” veteran show stopper who is not only a spot-on look-alike, but an impeccable sound-alike with energy that electrifies and exhilarates. The concert show combines over an hour of the outrageous song, dance, and comedy antics worthy of the Divine Miss M.
