Running clothes seem so drab compared to wearing a Santa outfit, don't you think?

Participants in this year’s Great Santa Run and Kris Kringle Walk will receive a five piece Santa outfit for either the 4-kilometer run or one-mile walk, scheduled for 10:15 a.m. Dec. 15 at Civic Center Park, located at the northeast corner of Fred Waring Drive and San Pablo Avene in Palm Desert.

Registration can be done online at www.dfddnow.org. Registrations will also be taken the day of the event between 8 and 10 a.m.

Proceeds from the Great Santa Run will be used to help fund the We Care Dental Clinic in Rancho Mirage, which recently was opened by Desert Friends of the Developmentally Disabled.

The clinic provides free dental services to the developmentally disabled adults and children as well as low-cost dental services to seniors 55 and over and veterans who have no insurance, are under-insured or are on fixed incomes.

The walk will be followed by a public awareness rally and entertainment provided by event co-chairs Chris Burke and the DeMasi Brothers.

Burke is an actor and folk singer who has down syndrome. He is best known for his character, Charles “Corky” Thacher on the television series “Life Goes On.”

Lauren Potter, an actress with down syndrome who plays Becky on the TV series “Glee,” will also talk about her experiences during the rally.
