Parade Season Rolls Into The Desert

The dawn of October signaled the beginning of an annual rite of passage for Palm Springs area residents and its fans – parade season.

Whether you enjoy aircraft, celebrating our local veterans or embracing the gay, lesbian community – there is a parade to fit your tastes.

Here is a list of upcoming parades, provided by the city of Palm Springs:

Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association “Parade of Planes”
Wednesday, Oct. 10, 10 a.m.

This is the kick off to the 2012 AOPA Summit at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Don’t miss these spectacular planes as they cruise city streets from Palm Springs International Airport to the Convention Center. Beginning Oct. 10- 15, Kirk Douglas Road will be closed to all vehicle traffic to accommodate AOPA aircraft parking.

Palm Springs High School Homecoming Parade
Oct. 24, 3 p.m.

Parade starts at Ramon Road.

Greater Palm Springs Pride Parade
Sunday, Nov. 4, 10 a.m.

Parade starts at Ramon Road and Palm Canyon Drive and travels northbound ending at Alejo Road. Two day festival at Sunrise Park, Nov. 3 & 4, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.pspride.org.

Palm Springs Veterans Day Parade
Sunday, Nov. 11, 3:30 p.m.

Parade starts at Ramon Road and Palm Canyon Drive and travels northbound ending at Alejo Road. A post-concert and fireworks begin immediately following the parade. This year’s parade will be held in honor of the late Agua Caliente Tribal Chairman Richard M. Milanovich, a veteran of the United States Army and a long-time Palm Springs community leader. The City of Palm Springs Veterans Day Parade is designated as a Regional Site for the observance for Veterans Day 2012 by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The 21st Annual Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade
Saturday, Dec. 1, 5:45 p.m.

Parade starts at Ramon Road and Palm Canyon Drive and travels northbound ending at Tamarisk Road. Don’t miss this fun-filled parade featuring marching bands, spectacular holiday floats adorned in thousands of colored holiday lights and Santa Claus on the Jackie Lee Houston Santa Claus Express!
