For more and more people, the perfect vacation comes with a desire to stay someplace that has eco-friendly extras.

What could be better than having a great time and helping the environment at the same time?

According to TripAdvisor, 71 percent of those who participated in their 2012 eco-friendly travel survey stated that they planned to make green choices in the next 12 months.

And half of them said they would spend more money to stay at an eco-friendly accommodation.

This trend has actually been building for awhile.

Back in 2008, The New York Times noted that “eco-friendly accommodation” used to mean “snuggling up under a thick quilt at a chilly mountain lodge, eating vegetables from the owner’s garden and recycling your trash before hitting the nearby nature trails.”

But that was rapidly changing as more chain and boutique hotels incorporated sustainable practices.

Many Coachella Valley hotels have adopted sustainability in exciting and inventive ways.

We’ve checked in to some of our favorites and see what they have to offer.

We’ll be highlighting one hotel a week, and throughout this series you’ll read about everything from herb gardens to beauty products made through ‘green chemistry’ to vehicle charging stations, and lots more.

So sit back, relax, and come along on our eco-friendly vacation.
