Fashions from Saks Fifth Ave. and a talk by special guest Fr. Gregory J. Boyle highlighted “At Our Best” — the 54th annual St. Theresa Fashion Show Luncheon held at The Parker Nov.5. Boyle is founder and executive director of Homeboy Industries, the largest gang intervention, rehabilitation, and re-entry program in the United States. Fr. Boyle spoke before the luncheon and fashion show. Boyle has authored several books including the New York Times best selling Tattoos On The Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion. His inspiring talk explained how gang members learn to work together through Homeboy Industries which he says provides “jobs not jail.” He was accompanied to the luncheon by two former gang members, now Homeboy employees, Juan Flores and Martin Hurtado II.
Guests were welcomed by Michael Keno, Principal. Jennifer Daniels, CBS Local 2 Anchor, was M.C. and introduced Boyle.
Fashions from Saks Fifth Avenue followed luncheon and preceded the live auction conducted by Jim Nye. Isabella Lanca, class of 2014, received the Jeanette Prieto-Dodd Leadership Award that exemplifies a commitment to family, faith, and community. The Award was established in 2012 in memory of Prieto-Dodd, an alumnus and long time leader and mentor in the community as well as at St Theresa School.
