November 1, 2013 marked the kick off to City of Palm Desert First Weekends and the opening night of the El Paseo Art Walk. The Palm Springs Art Museum hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony with attendees from all First Weekend participants, City of Palm Desert Mayor,  Jan Harnik, City Councilman, Van Tanner and city staff. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony started with live music in the Faye Sarkowsky Sculpture Garden and was followed by a panel discussion, "Helping Sustain Artists and The Production of Culture Through Engaged Giving;" all celebrating the museum's participation in First Weekends and Free 1st Fridays at The Galen. El Paseo Art Walk celebrated its change to the first Friday of each month with participating galleries hosting new exhibitions and visiting artists. Additional participants of the First Weekend kick off included El Paseo Cruise Night with over 200 cars and El Paseo merchants with extended hours and in store events.
