Marilyn Hirshleifer, a longtime board member at the Stroke Recovery Center, graciously opened her charming Little Tuscany home for the Center’s Annual Spring Luncheon and Fashion show, planned by the Auxiliary Committee.
Before lunch, ladies were welcomed to shop at a trunk showing of handbags created by designer Julie Feldman and contemporary fashions by The Wardrobe, Palm Springs. Taking advantage of an especially lovely spring day, lunch was served on the home’s sweeping covered terrace which afforded magnificent views of the San Jacinto mountain range and the Valley’s floor. A refreshing al fresco salad medley was catered by Rick’s Café with informal modeling by The Wardrobe and live entertainment by pianist Derrick Lewis.
The afternoon concluded with a raffle that included a generous number of luxurious prizes—all donated by supporters of the Stroke Recovery Center.
Proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the Stroke Recovery Center, founded in 1978 by Dr. Irving Hirshleifer. The center offers long-term rehabilitation to the survivors of stroke and traumatic brain injury (TBI), along with support for their families, caregivers, and loved ones. Services are structured to each client’s need and include exercise, nutrition, socialization, and just plain fun. All services are free, since insurance coverage does not exist for the long-term treatment of stroke or TBI. With an annual budget approaching $1 million, the Center relies exclusively on fundraising events, foundations, family donations, and revenues from its on-site thrift shop to fund the more than 10,000 visits it provides to more than 280 clients per year, five days a week.
